Whitchurch-on-Thames is a riverside village that remains unspoilt. It has a Norman mill. Hardwick House, a mile downstream, is originally Tudor, but was damaged in the Civil War and later modernised. The iron bridge over the Thames still extracts a toll from users as it has done since 1794. The present bridge is 100 years old in 2002, and this centenary will be marked by a special exhibition in May 2002. The Thames Path runs through the village. (www.whitchurchonthames.com).
