Waterperry

Across the other side of the river is Waterperry, the name being derived from 'pear tree' with 'water' reflecting the proximity of the river. The village has many 17th and 18th century cottages, with an 18th century manor house and a small but beautiful church. It contains examples of all periods including a Saxon chancel arch, a Jacobean pulpit and 18th century high box pews. Both church and manor house stand in beautiful ornamental gardens which are open to the public. The Waterperry Horticultural Centre offers a wide variety of herbaceous plants, alpines, trees and shrubs. There is a tea room, an art and craft gallery and a small museum housing a collection of agricultural and domestic implements.
