The small tranquil hamlet of Stoke Talmage lies at the head of a small valley. Talmage is from the Old French 'talemasche' roughly meaning 'knapsack'. The 13th century village church was substantially rebuilt in the Georgian style in 1758 and had the north aisle added in 1860.
