South Moreton

A delightful village set in a rural location on the outskirts of Didcot.

The Church of South Moreton dates from Saxon or possibly earlier times with the oldest visable part being the blocked-up west doorway which is visible from the outside. The south aisle was added in the twelfth century, whilst the porch entry is dated around 1370. The current font, pulpit, vestry and pews were installed during substansial restoration work in 1849. The General Register records marriages, baptisms and burials from 1599.

The importance of the location is underlined by the ancient Yew tree at the south-east end of the churchyard which was recently certified as being at least 1600 years old.
