Sandford On Thames

Sandford has the deepest lock on the Thames and splendid riverside scenery. The old paper mill, its history dating back to 1170, has been replaced with attractive riverside housing. The old houses here include the Temple Farmhouse which incorporates part of a building that belonged in the 13th century to the Knights Templars and later to the Knights Hospitallers of St John. The church, originally Norman, was rebuilt in the 19th century.
