Two miles west of Thame, Rycote has fragments of a palace-sized Tudor mansion, visited by Queen Elizabeth I and King Charles I. Rycote Chapel was consecrated in 1449 and the nave pews are of the 15th century. Other unspoilt fittings of the 17th century make this a chapel of outstanding interest. A large yew tree is said to have been planted to mark the coronation of King Stephen in 1135. Rycote Chapel is under the protection of English heritage and is open to the public.
