Checkendon

Checkendon lies near the summit of the Chilterns surrounded by beechwoods. The church was built in the 12th century and contain 13th century murals round the apse, a recently discovered 14th century mural in the chancel in its original state and a 20th century engraved Laurence Whistler window.

Opposite the church there are a group of interesting cottages and a 15th century part-thatched pub.
