Berinsfield

Berinsfield was designed in the late 1950's and 1960's as a new village on the site of a wartime airfield. It is now a thriving community with 4,000 residents. It has a unique war memorial and a memorial recently erected to commemorate the life of Wing Commander Adrian Warburton.

Queenford Lake on the outskirts of the village is a popular centre for jet and water skiing.

The name is derived from St Berin, a missionary bishop from Rome who baptised the King of the West Saxons in the River Thame at Dorchester in AD 634 and Field Farm on which the village was built. A section of the Roman Road between Dorchester and Alchester is still well defined in the village.
